Summer Road Trip: 6 weeks in the RV

Ah, nothing like the family summer road trip.  Well, we have a big one planned that involves six weeks on the road.  I posted about it earlier when it was in the planning stages but soon the time will come to hit the highway in our trusty motorhome and really experience long term living on wheels with kids.

What better way to kick off the trip than to head directly to Niagara Falls for a few days?  We will then spend three nights exploring the wilderness and water wonders of Western Ontario. Next is two nights in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan to watch the freighters go through the locks between Lake Superior and Lake Huron.  For the second week, we will be at my husband's parents' cabin on the shore of Lake Michigan, just north of Harbor Springs enjoying beautiful sunsets over the lake every night.  Because the entire family is getting together for the same week, we will be staying in the "mobile guest house" as we sometimes call the RV, to leave room for everyone else in the house. For the next week, we will visiting my family in Grosse Pointe, MI where you do not see motorhomes parked on the leafy residential streets, probably because it is illegal, so we'll see how that goes. Stay tuned.  Next is a long two-day drive to Holden Beach in North Carolina to visit with my husband's brother and his wife and her parents at their lovely home for a couple of days. Then, we will take the RV on a ferry up to the Outer Banks near Rodanthe where we will live it up on the beach in bare feet for more than a week and let the kids play while the adults take turns attending kiteboarding camp at REAL Watersports. For the last full week, we will be going to our favorite beach in the whole world, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina to sweat it out in the summer heat playing tennis, golf, maybe some kiteboarding, more beach time, and squeezing the last bit of relaxation out of the summer.  Finally, we will head north toward home, stopping overnight to have dinner with an old college friend and sleep in the RV in his driveway in Goldsboro, North Carolina, finally heading home in time for  another school year to start.  Whew!

I said in an earlier post that I would be posting daily during the trip. Well, I don't know about that, because especially in Canada and Northern Michigan, decent internet may be hard to come by, but I will take pics along the way and post highlights of our Family Escape 2010!
