This is one of the first of many pictures we took of the kids being sworn in as Junior Rangers at Agate Fossil Beds National Park in northwestern Nebraska. We drove quite a ways out of our way to come to this site because we wanted to see the kinds of places where paleontologists have unearthed the fossils that we study in schools and museums. From afar, a place like Nebraska seems kind of boring, but fossils, dinosaurs, and prehistoric animals are interesting and exciting. Guess what... they were found right here, in the middle of the country. It was a place we wanted to see for ourselves.
